All grades receive music education. Each grade participates in a winter or spring music performance. |
| Grades K-2: |
Focuses on group singing and music reading readiness along with fun while learning.

Grade 3:
|
Receives instruction on reading music and the recorder instrument, which serves as a prelude to band, and private instruction.

| Grade 4: |
Studies the family of instruments, seating arrangement of the symphony orchestra and the role of the conductor.
|

| Grades 5&6: |
Keyboard literacy is taught along with American Music, Spirituals, and early American composers.

Grade 7:
|
Music symbols, Italian words in music, and the interpretation of music on the printed page is studied. In addition, American Jazz is introduced to the students.

| Grade 8: |
Students receive an overview of the Baroque, Classic, and Romantic periods.
|

Mrs. Deramo also likes to digress her music instruction and concerts to incorporate community, national, and worldwide events. All classes meet Diocesan, state, and national guidelines. Grades 4, 5, and 6 attend the Youngstown Symphony's Young Peoples' Concert each spring.

Instrumental band classes are offered once a week for students beginning in the fourth grade. Students receive individual as well as group instruction in a Beginning Band group or Advance Band group. Musicians participate in the winter concert, spring concert, and once again in May. Students are given the opportunity to be featured in solo and ensemble appearances as well as to participate in a Summer Honors Band, OMEA Junior Honors Band, and the District 5 OMEA Junior High Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event.
